Ski Resorts in Russia - Ski Resorts in Russia

Mount Elbrus is now officially recognized as the highest mountain in Europe. The massif of Mt. Elbrus (Western summit 5642m and Eastern summit 5621m) is located 11 km to the north of the main Caucasus ridge, totally in European territory. The main ridge is the border between Russia and Georgia. Mt.Elbrus region is located in the Russian Federation in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. The other four of the seven Caucasian five thousanders (Shkhara, Dykh-Tau, Koshtan-Tau, Jangi-Tau) are located in Kabardino-Balkaria too. The seventh, Kasbek, is in Georgia.
Mount Elbrus is a subject of local inhabitants' admiration, one of the most interesting destinations for tourists, mountaineers and mountain skiers. Local name of this peak is Mengi Tau, which this means The Mountain of thousand mountains. This name is justified as the glaciated giant slopes are built of thick¬ened lava flows and both tops of Elbrus are more than 1000 m. higher comparatively to the rest peaks of the Caucasian Chain.

Region of Elbrus is attractive for travellers and adventurers any season. Programmes of climbs and trekking are mostly arranged in summer, Skitours and skiing in spring are very popular too. As for winter, mountaineers are trying to climb Elbrus to prepare themselves for the Himalayas and the Pamirs expeditions and ascents.
The climate of the region is determined by massive mountain chain and proximity to the Black sea. The weather is changeable: from a sunny day to a rainy one (with snowfall on the high altitude). Average temperature in daytime in summer is +27C. Nights are very cool., temperature can fall to -8C- -15C. The climate is damp.
Wide experience of Lenalptours in this area and high qualification of our guides will help to make your trip the most rewarding and exotic.
